Our Story: Mela Verde
Welcome to the blog for Mela Verde.
We are an upcoming fashion label that specialise in vegan and environmentally sustainable luxury accessories. All of our products are designed and produced in Australia.
Our Backstory:
Founded in 2019 on the Sunshine Coast, Australia, we create cruelty-free accessories that have the quality of luxury without harming animals or the environment. Our brand was launched with the question in mind, 'What is the cost of luxury?'. This goes beyond the literal sense of cost that comes with the idea of luxury in fashion. We question the cost that comes to the planet and its inhabitants by keeping up with the fast paced world of fashion.
The Source Of The Materials Matter:
We care, just like you do, about where our materials come from. Faux materials may benefit animals, but it does not always benefit the environment or the people creating the medium. Using animals as fashion statements damages the environment, however, switching one material for another does not always mean it will be a sustainable solution.
Does vegan not just mean environmentally sustainable in fashion?
No, these two terms are not synonymous to each other. During our journey as a brand, we have learnt about the potential repercussions to contributing to fast fashion, even as a vegan brand.
As a start up fashion label, we are doing our best as a vegan and sustainable company. We can only hope to continue to grow with our principles in mind to be even better as a brand and prove luxury does not have to mean unsustainable.
